Review: Between the Buried and Me, "Colors"

There’s no question about it - Between the Buried and Me’s “Colors” is our generation’s metal masterpiece. An eight track, sixty minute monster of intense speed metal blended with technical showmanship, bookended with piano pieces and split with a country hoedown (seriously... check out 'Ants of the Sky' and be astounded), “Colors” is the definition of a headphone record. In fact, you’re going to want to listen to the whole thing through every time - it’s that good. The gut-wrenching vocal vomiting of Tommy Rogers plays perfectly with the ridiculous shredding of guitarists Paul Waggoner and Dusty Waring, while Blake Richardson and Dan Briggs (drums and bass, respectively) lay out the perfect backdrop for this behemoth of an album. Apparently, they've taken to playing the entire record live - a major feat in and of itself. With “Colors” BTBAM have re-established the very essence of an American metal scene, reaching what one could only assume will be their peak. After all, what’s left to do when you’ve created an album that combines the best elements of Slayer and Queen?

9.5/10
